About the tyre pressure sensors

Messagepar leijian » 10 Juillet 2007, 16:20

Hello everyone.

How's it going? I got a problem here, about two days ago, my 207GT (with tyre pressure sensors) began to show a warning message says "Tyre pressure is too low", and which indicated to the driver front side one. So I brought my car to my dealer to do a service check this morning, it turned out the tyre has been punched.

The dealer told me they can repaire the tyre. But the thing which is bothering me is they also told me that after the tyre been repaired they need to reprograme the system whcih will cost me like 95 pound. I felt like been ripped off. I am just wondering when the presure of the tyre goes back to normal, does the system really neeed to be reprogrammed? It doesn't make sence for me.

Thanks for the help.

That sounds very unlikely.

Hello !

You need to reprogram the system only if you replace the wheel's sensor. Maybe they want to do this but :
- i'm not sure because they told you only about re program's cost
- you don't need to change sensor if you replace only the tire !

this is total bs! i had a flat and actually the tyre was totally sliced !! i installed the spare one and then swapped the rims between the spare and the original tyre so i could use the punctured one as a spare.
everything works perfectly while i never went to the company since my neighbor repairs tyres. it's been a month and it's perfect.

P.S: I had to switch the rims coz the spare doesn't have a sensor and i kept getting this annoying message about tyre pressure not being monitored.

How does the pressure detection work anyway?

In some cars some kind of special valve is used... something in the alloys... but I think in most cars the pressure detection is nothing more than the ESP chipset detecting that one of the wheels is spinning with a flat-profile pattern (it is possible to determine it).

In any case I'd say that paying for it would sound like a rip-off and something that would render the system useless (not cost-effective at all).

With our 207 cars, the wheel pressure is detected directly inside the wheel, and not by ESP system.
Thats why there is a message "Warning: tire pressure not checked" if you switch e.g. to winter tires that do not have a sensor.
