High fuel consumption - Trendy 1.4L 90 BHP petrol engine

Messagepar Heywood » 16 Novembre 2006, 22:18

Hello,

My Trendy equipped with 1.4 L 90 BHP petrol engine consumes arround 12.5 l/100km and I am wondering if it is normal for this car. I do 95% city drive with highway trips for some 250 km once a month. It is two and half months old and I made 2200 km.

I noticed that the consumption climbs very fast to 12.5l/100km after I reset board computer and it changes very little with the driving style. I was talking to mechanic at the official Peugeot service center and he told me that it is normal for new car to have higher consumption and after 10 000 km it will drop.

As I said, I use it mainly in the city with a lot of congestions. I never drive it at more than 4000 rpm - I change to higher gear at arround 3000 rpm.

I would like to hear other expiriences. What is your average consumption? Should I insist to check the car at the service?

Otherwise, the car is great, and I am very satisfied. I didn't notice any other problem.

Hi, I have the 1.6 110bhp petrol sport, my average over the first 1600 miles has been 38.6 miles per gallon, your fuel consumption will get better as the engine loosens up. I find that around town I average about 26 mpg and when I get on the motorway it goes up to between 34 and 48 mpg.

There is something wrong with your car. Either the engine or the board computer.

A 1,4 should not use that much gas, no mather what you do to it. Are you sure the board computer isn´t set to km/L? Then it would translate into 8L/100km, which sounds a lot more reasonable.

Have you tried to calculate the consumption manually?

Hi Geoff,

If I calculated well, 26 mpg is equal to 10l/100 km, and it is normal consumption for city drive for that engine. You re lucky guy :-)

I checked the computer. The display is set to l/100km.

I tried manual calculation and it is about the same as the board computer shows.
